The Story:
In 16th Century Prague, the Jewish community faced violent attacks and accusations from their Christian neighbors. Rabbi Loew, the Maharal of Prague, prayed to God to help them. God answered his prayers, and instructed him to make a clay golem on the banks of the River Vltava.
The Maharal followed God's instructions, and created a humanoid figure using the clay from the banks and the water from the river. At dawn, he prayed.
As the sun broke through the clouds of the new morning, God imbued the golem with life.
The stone man, the Golem, sprung forth with God-given life. From that point onward he defended the Ghetto of Prague and the Jews within from the wrath of the Christians. It is said that the body of the golem is still hidden away in the attic of a certain Czech synagogue...
